How To Create An Appealing Look

One of the first things I noticed from my content is the amount of people who asked me how I was able to obtain this look ⬇️

Side note: I’ll be attaching screenshots of examples for you to get inspiration of what look you want to go for, no matter what your budget is.

It’s not as hard as you think to achieve a similar look…

I’ll go over everything you see in this picture to help guide you to get a similar look (and customize to your liking)!

1. Desk

The desk I’m using is a $60 desk from amazon that is light and easy to move around within the room. I purposely chose this desk because I wanted to be able to move it around in the room and be able to create different looks for my content. I plan to have 2 other shots for my content! On my profile, you have only seen 2 so far. I’ll attach a screenshot of the exact desk.

2. Shelves

The shelves you see behind me I got from amazon. They were originally in my bedroom but ended up using it as a background for my content. You dont need to use shelves for your background but if you do want to use the same one, I’ll attach a screenshot.

3. Plants and Accessories

There’s something about plants that make a video 🤌. I prefer to use fake plants since they require no maintenance and can move them around the room easily. You can get fake plants anywhere from $5 to $100 or even more. The one I have is from IKEA and is $65. As far as accessories go, there is no right or wrong and is completely up to you!

4. Lighting

Lighting for your videos is SUPER important. Lighting is the most important part of the look you are going for. If your lighting is bad, your video wont look appealing. To get the lighting you want, you have to be in control of ALL the light in your room.

My room is PITCH BLACK before turning on the soft light I have for filming. I make sure the room light is off, no hallway light is seeping in, and that there is no light coming in from the windows. This allows me to control all aspects of light.

This is the soft light I use. It’s important to use a soft light as it will not look so harsh on you vs using another kind of light.

The other light I use is an RGB Bar. There are so many to choose from but this is the one I have. I place the bar on one of the shelves or on the floor, but its not in frame.

5. Blur

The way I’m able to blur that background is from the kind of lens I have. The lens I have has an aperture of up to F2.8. To make it simple, each lens has an aperture number. The LOWER the number, the more background blur you can achieve. Your lens will tell you what that is, but if you’re using your phone to film just type into google:

“(phone name) camera specs”

A friend of mine Justin Yurong achieves this simple yet elegant look by having a gradient colored light behind him.

Mark Tilbury achieves this clean look using only 3 elements. 2 Lights and a book shelf.
